The Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance is working to correctly locate, identify and photograph ALL of Jefferson County's Cemeteries. We need your help! If you know of an obscure or little-known cemetery, we would like to hear from you. Lost and obscure cemeteries especially need your help, and urgency should be taken for any cemetery that is in danger of being damaged or destroyed. They can be hiding down little traveled roads and trails, lost in the forests and woods, or long hidden on private property. Some can be as small as just one or two graves. Help us locate these hard to find cemeteries, and please contact us if you know of unmarked graves that we should be aware of. We would like everybody to participate in this worthwhile project.

We at the ACPA would also like to remind everyone, while in their work to preserve Alabama’s cemeteries, please respect the land owners. Always ask for permission before entering private property. If you do have problems accessing a cemetery in Jefferson County, please contact Terri Hicks and she will help you with some guidance. New state laws have stated that descendants and researchers should be allowed access to locked and land locked cemeteries, with permission.

Please help the ACPA reach it's goal of registering every cemetery in Jefferson County and the State of Alabama. By registering a cemetery with the ACPA Cemetery Register, you will be helping to insure it's location and preservation, protected by State Law. Although the ACPA is very concerned and interested in finding lost or obscure cemeteries, ALL cemeteries, old and new, large or small may be registered on the ACPA Cemetery Register. Forever memorialize your family cemetery and any other cemetery that you are interested in. (Note: Cemeteries may only be registered once in the register.)
